How to Create the Perfect Music Video

In recent months (June/July), we've seen the meteoric rise of Psy and his song Gangnam Style. Even though 90% (I'm just assuming) of the whole world doesn't know what the song meant without researching, the song was still able to make it through the mainstream media.

Many people would argue that this music video is perfect to an extent. However, many would also argue that it is not "that" perfect.

In my opinion, "Gangnam Style" is the perfect music video. From the execution to the characters. Everything was just well played and that is why people got so hooked into it.

Let's move now on "How to Create the Perfect Music Video". You might ask if there really is a formula. Well in fact there is and I am now going to list it down for 'ya!

1. A Catchy Song
Before thinking of a concept for the music video, you must first be able to produce a song that is catchy and loud.

When talking about Gangnam Style, the bass was pumping the whole time and that looping riff is just as epic as hell. Not to mention the unexpected vocals of Psy. Most people would think that because it's K-Pop it will have that aggressive sound to it (like most K-Pop acts have). But instead, what Psy did was he laid it back a little and let his different kind of swag take over.

2. The Characters
The characters will play a huge role in this one. If you want to a perfect music video, you must have a perfect definition of the characters in the music video. Of course, you also need actors that can play the roles perfectly.

In the Gangnam Style MV, Psy played the role of anti-hero perfectly. You must be wondering why
I labeled him as an 'anti-hero'. It's very simple to explain actually. He's an anti-hero because there's nothing heroic to anything he does in the MV.

Aside from your main character, supporting characters are also important. Take the elevator guy on Gangnam Style as an example. He's over the top but his antics are so funny that it's just hard to hate what he did in the music video.

3. Sexy Ladies
No matter what you think about this next thing on the list, sexy ladies do matter for a MV to be perfect. Why is that? Because sometimes, most guys would only care to watch something because there's a pretty girl in it. Include me on that list.

That's why the producers and directors of Gangnam Style was very smart for acquiring Hyuna for the music video. Let's admit that her version of Gangnam Style was not as good as Psy's but on the original music video, she was just that kind of girl that would make guys go "Wait' who's that chick?". After that, these guys would google search "who's the girl in gangnam style" and the rest is well, FAP time! So yes, Sexy ladies are a must!

4. Something Stupid

Since this will be a hard thing to explain, I'll be straightforward and will be just giving an example. In the Gangnam Style MV, it's pretty obvious that that something stupid is the "Horse Dance".

So that wraps it up. I don't think I need to say anything more because it's now time to create your own music video. Remember to take your time, step back and look at the bigger picture and always keep your swag! Just don't forget to mention me when your video becomes the next big thing.
